The Full Court

Plenary Session is the general meeting of judges of the Supreme Court. Its authority is regulated by Article 49 of the Law On Judicial Power and the rules of a Plenary Session.

A Plenary Session is convened and chaired by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. In the absence of the Chief Justice, such duties are carried out by the deputy Chief Justices. The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Latvia may participate in a Plenary Session.

Plenary Session assemblies are open to visitors. Particular issues may be heard behind close doors, if the Plenary Session considers this necessary.

A Plenary Session has a quorum if a single majority of the Supreme Court justices who have been confirmed and sworn in in accordance with the law are present. The justices must wear their robes and judicial insignia while participating in a Plenary Session.

A secretary of a Plenary Session is elected from among the participating justices. As from February 26, 2009, the secretary of the Plenum of the Supreme Court is senator of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate Inara Garda.
