Kā nepārsūdzēts stājies spēkā Augstākās tiesas Civillietu tiesu palātas 2012.gada 10.aprīļa spriedums, ar kuru daļēji apmierināta prasība par morālā kaitējuma atlīdzības piedziņu saistībā ar traģisko negadījumu Talsos 1997.gada 28.jūnijā, kurā dzīvību zaudēja prasītāju Guntas Egles un Jāņa Egles dēls Ingmārs un Initas Neverčikas dēls Elviss. Ar apelācijas instances tiesas spriedumu no Latvijas valsts Valsts ugunsdzēsības un glābšanas dienesta (VUGD) personā par labu I.Neverčikai piedzīti Ls 20 000, par labu G.Eglei Ls 10 000 un par labu J.Eglem Ls 10 000.

Senāta Administratīvo lietu departaments 4.jūnijā atcēla Administratīvās apgabaltiesas spriedumu daļā, ar kuru apelācijas instances tiesa Valsts ieņēmumu dienesta lēmumu par pienākumu maksāt iedzīvotāju ienākumu nodokli par nekustamo īpašumu pārdošanu, kas bijuši tās īpašumā ilgāk par 12 mēnešiem bija atzinusi par prettiesisku. Apelācijas instances tiesai pieteikums šajā daļā būs jāskata vēlreiz. Pārējā daļā Senāts Administratīvās apgabaltiesas spriedumu, proti, daļā, ar kuru aprēķināts IIN, soda nauda un nokavējuma nauda par nekustamo īpašumu pārdošanu, kas bijuši pieteicējas īpašumā mazāk par 12 mēnešiem, atstāja negrozītu. Senāta spriedums nav pārsūdzams.

The 4th issue of “Bulletin of the Supreme Court” is published and it will reach all Latvian courts and other judicial institutions, as well as libraries and higher educational institutions in nearest future.
Bulletin contains information about activities of the Supreme Court related to topical issues in field of human rights and international cooperation, as well as topical decisions of the Board of Justice in issues conceptual to judiciary.

Latvia will be represented in Association of European Judges for Mediation (GEMME) also in future, as new Board was elected in General Assembly of the Association in Paris on May 10-13, and Zane Petersone, executer of duties of a judge of the Supreme Court, was elected in composition of the Board.
New president and his deputies were elected in meeting of the Board and representatives of member states of GEMME, The new president is Jaime O. Cardona Ferreira from Portugal. In sessions of the Board and representatives of member states of GEMME main questions were related to development of association, activities planned, visions about directions of operation of GEMME needed, inter alia, attraction of new member states, also from outside Europe. Next meeting and conference that will take place in November, 2012, in Sofia, Bulgaria, and events dedicated to the 10th anniversary of GEMME that will take place in December, 2013, in Paris, France, were also discussed.

Augstākās tiesas (AT) Senāta Krimināllietu departaments, rakstveida procesā izskatot apsūdzēto Kristīnes Ozoliņas un Jāņa Ozoliņa un viņu aizstāvju iesniegtās kasācijas sūdzības par AT krimināllietu tiesu palātas lēmumu krimināllietā par uzbrukumu inkasācijas automašīnai 2008.gada decembrī, atstāja apelācijas instances tiesas lēmumu negrozītu, bet iesniegtās kasācijas sūdzības noraidīja. Līdz ar to stājas spēkā apelācijas instances tiesas lēmums, ar kuru Jānis Ozoliņš sodīts ar brīvības atņemšanu uz 13 gadiem, Kristīne Ozoliņa sodīta ar brīvības atņemšanu uz 11 gadiem un Georgs Ivanovskis sodīts ar brīvības atņemšanu uz 10 gadiem. Visiem trim apsūdzētajiem noteikta mantas konfiskācija un policijas kontrole uz 3 gadiem.

On the 30th of May, in Riga Palace, the President Andris Berzins met Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to discuss results of work of the Supreme Court in 2011 and work priorities for this year.
During meeting, I.Bickovics informed the President about work done in the Supreme Court last year. Although number of cases arrived to the court hadn’t increased significantly last year, but terms of review of civil cases become longer, especially in commercial disputes due to difficulty of cases.

Having received request of Public Administration and Local Government Committee of the Saeima to provide opinion about standards included in draft law “Amendments to the law “On Prevention of Conflict of Interest in Activities of Public Officials”” that influence judiciary significantly, the Board of Justice decided not to support Item of the draft law stating necessity for a judge to receive permission to operate and to hold office in associations.
