On Tuesday, the 22nd of February, meeting of the Board of Justice will take place. Issues to be reviewed in Judicial Conference that will take place on the 15th of April and also regulation of Judicial Conference will be discussed during this meeting.
During the sitting it has been planned to establish number of judges in each district (city) court, regional court and department of land books. According to suggestion of the Board of Justice, the Saeima has confirmed total number of judges: 315 judges for district (city) courts, 134 judges in regional courts and 80 judges in departments of land books.

Latvian Judicial Conference, which had to be convoked in April, is postponed to autumn. The Council of Justice has adopted such decision due labour-saving considerations, so that it wouldn’t be necessary to organise one more conference, when the Saeima would make amendments to the law “On Judicial Power”, in relation to which it will be necessary to convoke judicial conference.

On Wednesday, the 16th of February, in Shadow Day (the day when secondary schools pupils may follow state officials mainly to get familiar with their job) thirteen secondary school pupils from Riga, Lizums and Varaklani got acquainted with work of judges, assistants to judges and also the Division of Communication of the Supreme Court.

Aiva Zarina, the judge of the Chamber of Civil Cases finishes with execution of work duties of the judge today. Saeima has dismissed her from the post of the judge of the Supreme Court as from the 16th of February as she reached maximum age of judge established in the law.

Kalvis Torgans, the senator of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate of the Supreme Court, the professor of the Department of Civil Law of the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia (UL) received annual award of the University of Latvia in science. The award is given to the professor for creation of the scientific school.

Jautrite Briede, the senator of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate and associated professor of the Faculty of Law of the UL, had a telephone talk to Ilma Cepane, the Saeima deputy last weekend. The conversation was about possible nomination of the senator for the post of ombudsman, but Jautrite Briede refused from this post.

Since the 1st of February Inguna Radzevica has started to work in the post of the senator of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate. Decision about appointment of Inguna Radzevica, the judge of the Chamber of Criminal Cases, for the post of the senator was adopted in general session of the senators of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate on the 19th of January.
