On April 27, the Chamber of Civil Cases has reviewed the case about the claim of ex-Chair of the Board of Clinical University Hospital named by Pauls Stradins Maris Plavins against Gundars Berzins about retraction of information injuring dignity and reputation and recovery of compensation of 200 000 Ls. The Court of Appeal will announce the sentence in the case on May 11.

On April 27, the Chamber of Civil Cases in closed court hearing has reviewed the case about the claim of Toms Putns against the Republic of Latvia in person of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Latvia and National Fire and Life-Saving Service (NFLSS) about recovery of compensation for mutilation, disfigurement and harm caused to health in relation to tragic accident in Talsi on June 28, 1997, when in a festival, organised by MI, when basket of autolift fell, and 21 children, inter alia, Toms Putns were injured. The Court of Appeal will announce the sentence on May 11 at 9.55 a.m.

On April 7, the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate decided to give the claim of Kristine Dupate towards “Zurnals SANTA” Ltd., editor-in-chief of the magazine ”Privata dzive” Sandija Miezite and journalist Zane Karklina, about obligation to publish an excuse for excessive invasion in the private life of the claimant and recovery of moral harm in amount of LVL 5000, to a review in extended composition of the Senate. The Senate made this decision according to Part 2 of Paragraph 472 of Civil Procedure Law, which states that if, having reviewed the case in composition of three senators, court doesn’t have unite opinion or all senators consider the case to be reviewed in extended composition, then the court makes decision about giving the case to review in extended composition of the Senate. The Senate had reviewed the case due to cassation claim submitted by K. Dupate on March 24.

On March 31, the Chamber of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court has rejected the claim of Tatjana Prokofjeva to “Avon Cosmetics” Ltd. about compensation of moral harm in amount of LVL 160 000. The court of appeal has reviewed the case in court hearing on March 17. The full text of the decision of the court of appeal will be available after April 15, and since that date participants of the case will be able to appeal against it in cassation proceedings in the Senate of the Supreme Court.
