Sixteen advocates from the Netherlands visited the Supreme Court on the 6th of October.

Advocates from Amsterdam Advocate Association “Gooische Advocaten Vereniging” visit different countries regularly to exchange experience and to know legal system of other countries.

Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, acquainted Netherlandic advocates with Latvian court system and structure and functions of the Supreme Court during the meeting. During conversation, visitors pointed out similar court topicalities in Latvia and the Netherlands, for example, influence of increase of litigation expenses to availability of courts.

Getting to know Latvian court system, the Netherlandic advocates also visited the Latvian Board of Sworn Advocates, the Board of Sworn Notaries, the Board of Sworn Bailiffs, the Constitutional Court, General Prosecutor’s Office, Bureau of the Ombudsman, the Ministry of Justice, the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia, as well as the State Fire and Rescue Service and the Police of Riga municipality.
