The Plenum of the Supreme Court on October 5 has elected the senator of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate Peteris Dzalbe as representative of the Central Election Committee among judges.

Peteris Dzalbe has executed duties of the senator of the Supreme Court since year 2005. Before that, he was the Chair of Zemgale region court and judge and the Chair of Jelgava public court. P. Dzalbe is also deputy of the Chair of the Judicial Disciplinary Committee.

The competence of the Plenum of the Supreme Court, according to the sixth part of the Paragraph 49 of the law „On Judicial Power” is to elect one member of the Central Election Committee among judges. Since 1994 these duties had been executed by the senator Valda Eilande. As in July of this year Valda Eilande was released from execution of duties of judge due to her retirement, then the Central Election Committee needed a new member among judges.
