The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Ivars Bickovics participates in the Conference of Chief Justices of Central and Eastern Europe in Slovakia, which this year takes place on May 27-29 in Bratislava, Slovakia.

The conference will focus on a number of topics – on public perceptions of the value of the courts in the modern media environment, on the role of the Supreme Courts in the formation of unified case-law, on issuing clear, well-reasoned opinions at all levels, as well as on the role of courts in ensuring human rights. Likewise, chief justices of supreme courts will discuss issues related to the selection of judges and effective disciplinary mechanisms.

The Conferences of Chief Justices of Central and Eastern Europe have been organized since 2011, thus facilitating a discussion forum on judicial reforms in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.

Conferences are organized with the support of the CEELI (Central Eastern Europe Law Initiative) Institute. CEELI is an independent, international non-profit organization that has been engaged in developing professional and international experience of practicing lawyers since 1999.
