In festive event in the Supreme Court, which was dedicated to the 92nd anniversary of foundation of the Latvian State and to jubilee of the Supreme Court, there was a historical moment – Badges of Term of Service of 20 years of the Supreme Court were given for the first time.   

Those were given to judges and employees, who have worked in the Supreme Court for 20 years – from the dawn of the Supreme Court of restored independent Republic of Latvia in 1990.

Badges of Term of Service of 20 years were given to nine senators and judges – Pavels Gruzins, the Chair of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate, the senator Anita Nusberga and the ex-senator Vilnis Vietnieks from the same department; Zigmants Gencs, the Chair of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate and the senator of the Department Marite Zagere; Gunars Aigars, the Chair of the Chamber of Civil Cases and the judge of the Chamber Raimonds Gravelsins; judges of the Chamber of Criminal Cases – Ludmila Polakova and Ramona Nadezda Jansone, and nine employees of the Court – driver Valdis Straume, the senior adviser of the Division of Documentation Administration Inta Kirse and the senior expert of the same Division Anda Straume,  the senior expert of the Division of Finance Edgars Janeks and the adviser of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate Ausma Garkalne.  

The Badge of Term of Service is the award Supreme Court awarded to judges and employees for long and decent work in the Supreme Court. The award was created in 2005, celebrating the 15th anniversary of restoration of operation of the Supreme Court.

There are four types of the badge approved by the State Commission of Heraldry: the Badge of Term of Service of 10 years, the Badge of Term of Service of 15 years, the Badge of Term of Service of 20years and the Badge of Term of Service of 25 years of work in the Supreme Court.Fascia – a faggot bound by a band containing an axe and encircled by oak leaves – is displayed on the badge. Fascia is internationally acknowledged symbol of judiciary and the central element of the chain of post of a judge of the Republic of Latvia. 

In May, 2010, the Supreme Court celebrated the 20th anniversary of restoration of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Latvia, and in October – the 15th anniversary of creation of the Senate and Chambers of the Supreme Court in 1995.
