As Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court was abroad, participating in conference of Chiefs Justice of Supreme Courts of European countries in Prague, his deputy Gunars Aigars represented the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in events devoted to accession of Andris Berzins on the 8th of July.

The deputy of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court participated in Saeima’s sitting that was called especially. In this sitting Andris Berzing gave a Vow of the President of the State and entered upon his duties. Ministers, foreign ambassadors and former presidents also participated in the sitting.

During reception that followed the festive meeting, Gunars Aigars gave greeting of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to the President. In this greeting Ivars Bickovics wished the President to succeed in fulfilling citizens’ hopes for fair, judicial and orderly state.

Later, the President Andris Berzins together with the Chair of Saeima Solvita Aboltina, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis and Gunars Aigars, the deputy of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, laid flowers by the Monument of Freedom. It was the first time that highest officials of all three powers – legislative, executive and judicial power – were together with President after his accession.
