On 16 March, Valters Scerbinksis, PhD in History, the author of the biographical dictionaries of Latvian judges, advocates and notaries, was the first guest of the Supreme Court who opened conversation series on Latvia’s statehood. The historian talked about the history of Latvia's statehood.

Valters Scerbinskis also presented the audience with the forthcoming Latvia’s National Encyclopedia, to which he is the editor-in-chief.

The conversation series with experts from various fields – interesting personalities – is organized by the Supreme Court in order to find out the historical and cultural elements that permeate Latvia's statehood and reveal various aspects of statehood and consider issues that have been crucial for the existence of the Latvian state through times.

During the opening of the conversation series, Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, noted that when taking part in conversations with non-lawyers, judges and employees there will an opportunity to look at Latvia's statehood beyond the lawyer’s daily work regulated by law, to get new information and inspiration in the year of the centenary of the Latvian state and the Senate of Latvia.

A number of meetings are planned throughout the year.
