During festive event organised by the Ministry of Justice on the eve of Week of National Holidays on 7 November, the highest professional award – the Mark of Distinction of the System of Justice – was presented to 21 employees of the system of justice, inter alia, to Aija Branta and Anda Vitola, judges of the Supreme Court.

For significant contribution to strengthening of democracy and rule of law Aija Branta, the judge of the Chamber of Criminal Cases, was awarded with the Mark of Distinction of the 2nd rank, and Anda Vitola, the judge of the Department of Civil Cases received the Mark of Distinction of the 3rd rank.

Those awarded were greeted by Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Dzintars Rasnacs, the Minister of Justice, and Eriks Kalnmeiers, the Prosecutor General.

The Mark of Distinction is special award established jointly by Latvian judiciary six years ago, approving importance of lawyers’ profession and being aware of necessity for feeling of professional community. The purpose of the award of the system of justice is to highlight particular achievements and contribution to development of the system of justice of the Republic of Latvia and strengthening of rule of law.
