Today, on March 23, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Ivars Bickovics has sent to the Chair of Saeima, Gundars Daudze, an official note that he advances former General prosecutor Janis Maizitis to be appointed for the post of the General prosecutor of the Republic of Latvia.

Before announcing the decision, the Chief Justice today morning invited Janis Maizitis for a conversation, in order to hear direct agree from him about repeated advancement of candidate, and also to inform Janis Maizitis that he is the person being advanced for the post of the General prosecutor.

Former experience of work of Janis Maizitis, gained during two terms of office in the post of general prosecutor, professional skills, education, understanding of problems in the work of Prosecutor’s office and their solution, successful running of Prosecutor’s office also in conditions of limited financing, and also personal qualities – all this is totality that was ground for the decision of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court I. Bickovics to advance former General prosecutor for the post repeatedly.

The term of office of Janis Maizitis in the post of General prosecutor of the Republic of Latvia ends on May 11, 2010. Saeima has to vote for his appointment to the post for the third term.
