On July 21-22, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Ivars Bickovics participates in a discussion of judges and Chiefs Justice of Supreme Courts of European countries, organised by CEELI Institute in Prague. This time the topic of discussion is a reform of judicial system in countries of Central and Eastern Europe after the fall of Berlin wall. In discussion there participate Chiefs Justice and judges of Supreme Courts almost from 20 European countries.

The main guest lecturer in discussion is the judge of the Supreme Court of the United States of America Sandra Day O’Connor. Judges and Chiefs Justice of courts in conversation at the round table will discuss main achievements in judicial reforms for last 20 years, and also will pay attention to future challenges, problems and their solutions. Participants of discussion will also look for a better form of mutual cooperation of judges of Supreme courts in Central and Eastern Europe, in order to discuss common trends in formation of the case-law regularly, and exchange experience.

In October 2007, CEELI Institute in Prague for the first time had organised discussion of round table of Court Integrity for judges and Chiefs Justice of Supreme courts of 15 countries of Central and Eastern Europe. The task of these discussions was to find better strategies to fight against corruption, and to promote international cooperation.

CEELI (Central Eastern Europe Law Initiative) Institute is an independent international non-profit organisation that deals with formation of professional and international experience of practicing lawyers. The Institute has worked since 1999, and during these years more than 1100 lawyers from 32 countries gained experience in events, organised by it.
