Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court participates in conference organised by CEELI Institute for Chiefs Justices of the Supreme Court in Prague from 6th till 9th of July.

Issues of topical discussions of the conference were defined after questioning of Chiefs Justices of the Supreme Courts, and this time issues are related to transparency and corruption in courts, as well as relationships of judiciary with legislative and executive power. Each participant has prepared report about greatest challenges in his/her career of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

The guest of the conference is John G. Roberts, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States of America. He will lead discussions at the round table about conference issues with Chiefs Justice.

Participants will also discuss further forms of conferences organised by CEELI Institute and agenda of conference for 2012 that will take place in Vienna.

CEELI Institute in Prague has been organising discussions about court integrity for Chiefs Justice of the Supreme Courts of European countries since 2007. The goal of these discussions is to form the best strategies to fight corruption in court system and to promote mutual cooperation.  

CEELI (Central Eastern Europe Law Initiative) is a project founded by American Bar Association that promotes strengthening of rule of law in the world, helping to implement legal reform in Central and Eastern European countries, as well as in countries of former USSR. CEELI Institute is independent international non-profit organisation that has been forming professional and international experience of practicing lawyers since 1999.
