The senator of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate Normunds Salenieks has suddenly prolonged his temporary absence till October 20, 2010, so since today till October 20 the judge Vesma Kakste has returned to the Supreme Court in order to continue to replace the senator.

The judge of Administrative regional court Vesma Kakste had replaced the senator Salenieks since August 18, 2008 till July 19, 2010, as the term, established in the law “On Judicial Power”, in which the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court instructed the judge to execute senator’s duties, had finished.

Taking into account great accumulation of cases and volume of work existing in the department for this moment, it would be difficult to work without one senator until the end of October, so the Chair of the Department asked the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to find a solution for temporary replacement of the senator. Positive resolution to replace the absent senator was given to Vesma Kakste by Judicial Qualifications Committee; the decision was agreed with the Chair of the Administrative regional court and discharger of duties of the Minister of Justice.

Due to family circumstances, the senator Normunds Salenieks has been on temporary absence since April 2008.
