General meeting of Senators of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate provides explanation regarding the state fee to be determined for the claim of termination of joint ownership

On Tuesday, January 28, a general meeting of senators of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate provided an explanation regarding the state fee payable for submitting a claim to terminate joint ownership. The general meeting was convened by Chief Justice Ivars Bickovics on the basis of Section 491 (1) of the Law “On Judicial Power” and taking into account the suggestion of the Chair of the Collegium of Civil Cases of Zemgale Regional Court.

In criminal cases, the most common reason for initiation of cassation proceedings is incorrect application of a punishment

In the first ten months of this year, the Department of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court (Senate) annulled or amended rulings of first instance courts and courts of appeal in more than half of cases examined. Furthermore, in two out of five annulled or modified rulings (38%) the errors in application of a punishment have been found as shows the statistics of the Supreme Court.
