Latvian Board of Justice has joined European Network of Councils for the Judiciary

General Assembly of the European Network of Councils for the Judiciary made a decision about admittance of the Board of Justice of the Republic of Latvia as a member of network. Decision was made at the Assembly that took place in Vilnius on June 8-10.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court accepts the vow of advocates and bailiffs

The most honourable sworn advocate both in sense of age and previous experience among those 23 advocates who gave a vow to Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, is Vilnis Vietnieks – the ex-senator of the Supreme Court. Retiring after having worked as a judge, he decided to continue his further legal activity in advocacy. While greeting V. Vietnieks and other new advocates, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court reminded that work of advocate is a challenge to a certain extent, as there are numerous colleagues, and each must try to be the best, the most sough-after among clients and respected. At the same time I. Bickovics wished advocates not to forget while executing their duties, that their work is an element of court system that to greater extent forms social understanding and attitude.

In remembrance of deported and perished senators of Latvia’s Senate

Today there are 70 years since one of the greatest tragedies in history of Latvia, and the Supreme Court remembers seven ex-senators of Latvia’s Senate and their families, who were among more than 15 thousands inhabitants of Latvia deported from Latvia on the 14th of June, 1941.

Research associates of the Supreme Administrative Court of Germany hear joint sittings of the Senate

On Friday, the 10th of June, research associates of the Supreme Administrative court of Germany visited the Supreme Court. As listeners, they participated in two joint sittings of the Department of Administrative Cass of the Senate, met senators of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate, as well as visited the museum of the Supreme Court. In Germany, research associates of the Supreme Administrative Court are judges of administrative court of the lowest instances, who have been instructed to work in the Supreme Administrative Court temporarily.

Judges of regional courts temporarily replace judges of the Supreme Court

Livija Slica, the judge of the Administrative regional court, will temporarily execute duties of the senator of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate, and Zane Petersone, the judge of Riga regional court, will execute duties of judge of the Chamber of Civil Cases as from the 1st of June.
