THE CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE SUPREME COURT ACCEPTS A VOW OF BAILIFFS

On July 29, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court accepted a vow of four bailiffs. Marcis Midegs and Elina Balasanjana became sworn bailiffs of Riga regional court, Maris Vanags will be sworn bailiff of Vidzeme regional court and Agnese Celherte – sworn bailiff of Zemgale regional court.

THE PRESIDENT OF LATVIA ACCEPTS JUDGE’S OATH OF AIGARS STRUPISS

On July 15, Andris Berzins, the President of Latvia, accepted solemn oath of Aigars Strupiss, the judge of the Supreme Court. The judge solemnly swore: “to be honest and fair, to be loyal to the Republic of Latvia, to always endeavour to determine the truth, never to betray it, and to adjudge strictly in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of the Republic of Latvia.” Having accepted the oath, the President of Latvia issued to the judge Aigars Strupiss the insignia of office.

THE JUDGE AIGARS STRUPISS STARTS WORK IN THE DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL CASES

On July 7, Aigars Strupiss starts work in the Supreme Court Department of Civil Cases. The new judge will give judge’s solemn oath to the President of Latvia on July 15.

On 4 July Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, accepted an oath of Janis Kulbergs, who was admitted to the Latvian Council of Sworn Advocates.

AIJA BRANTA PARTICIPATES IN PLENARY SESSION OF CEPEJ

On July 3-4, Aija Branta, the judge of the Chamber of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court, participates in the 23rd Plenary Session of the Council of Europe’s Commission for the Efficiency of Justice – CEPEJ, which is held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

In publishing house of “Latvijas Vestnesis” the book “Comments on the Law on Notification” by Janis Neimanis, the judge of the Supreme Court Department of Administrative Cases, associated professor of the University of Latvia, is published. The book is published in Latvian language.
