Dzintra Balta is elected as deputy chair of the Council for the Judiciary
On October 15, the Council for the Judiciary had a sitting in an updated composition, as five newly elected representatives of the judiciary have begun their work. New deputy chair of the Council for the Judiciary had to be elected from among the judges, and Dzintra Balta, judge of Riga Regional Court, was elected to this office.

By an overwhelming majority, in the electronic conference on the September 18 the judges expressed their support for the proposal that the chairs of district (city) and regional courts should be appointed by the Council for the Judiciary after the proposal of the general meeting of judges for a term of five years.

On September 11, Juris Stukans, judge of Riga Regional Court, Guntars Plorins, judge of Valmiera Courthouse of the Administrative District Court, and Andris Zutis, judge of Rezekne Court, have been elected as members of the Council for the Judiciary at the Judges’ Electronic Conference.

Adrija Kasakovska, judge of Zemgale District Court, was elected as a member of the Judicial Ethics Commission for a term of four years. She was nominated by district (city) court judges for this office.

This year's Latvian Judges’ Conference which took place on September 7 was devoted to the centennial of the Latvian judicial system and its prospects. The Conference was attended by representatives of the Supreme Courts from countries that also celebrate their centenary – Lithuania, Estonia, Finland and Poland.
