Upon initiative of Dzintars Rasnacs, the Minister of Justice, the Council for the Judiciary listened to his information on accomplishments in the system of justice, when working in the government of the Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma. The Minister of Justice wants to implement the tradition that along with announcement of the Prime Minister on resignation, each minister provides a report to the highest state officials on his or her performance during his or her term of office.

The Council for the Judiciary believes that, when publishing final decision adopted in disciplinary cases of judges, it is possible to disclose the name of a judge the examined case is related to. However, the issue concerning protection of other data included in the decision in the disciplinary case, for example, particular court cases, secret of deliberation of court, identity of third parties, sensitive data of a judge, etc.

To equalize load of judges among Land Registry Offices, the Council for the Judiciary decided to transfer one office of a judge from the Land Registry Office of Riga district court to the Land Registry Office of Riga city Vidzeme suburb court, as from 1 January 2016.

On Monday, 21 December, the Committee for improvement of legal environment established by the President of the State will participate in the sitting of the Council for the Judiciary to get familiarised with topicalities of work of the Council for the Judiciary. One of first issues of activity of the Committee is strengthening of role and capacity of the Council for the Judiciary.

To ensure efficient and rational utilization of resources of the Supreme Court, the Council for the Judiciary, upon proposal of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, redistributed number of judges in structural units of the court – it increased number of judges in the Department of Administrative Cases for one judge, decreasing number of judges in the Chamber of Civil Cases.

Four new judges in the courts of the first instance. The Council for the Judiciary determined courts, where four new judges, who were confirmed to the office of a judge by the Saeima (Parliament) on 22 October, will discharge judicial duties.
