Reflections on Economic Court: Still Unanswered Questions

In the issue of journal “Jurista Vards” of August 13, Aigars Strupiss, a member of the Council for the Judiciary and chair of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate, expressed his views on the establishment of an economic court and about the way the decision of the Council for the Judiciary to not to support establishment of such a court as proposed by the Ministry of Justice is reflected.

The Council for the Judiciary approves amendments to the calculation procedure of the retirement pension for judges

The Council for the Judiciary supports the proposal to include in the calculation of the retirement pension of judges the length of service as a lawyer and academic staff of an accredited university, even if it is less than 10 years. Removal of the restriction imposed so far by the Law on Judges' Retirement Pensions will ensure proportionality and equality in the calculation of the length of service of judges.
