On Tuesday, 8 March, the Constitutional Court, with discussion among current and former Presidents opened the 20th anniversary year of the Constitutional Court. Aija Branta, the judge of the Department of Criminal Cases, who was the President of the Constitutional Court in 2014, also participated in the conversation.
Aldis Lavins, the President of the Constitutional Court, had invited former Presidents of the Constitutional Court – Aivars Endzins, Gunars Kutris and Aija Branta – to conversation conducted by the Doctor in Law Janis Pleps, the former employee of the Constitutional Court. The discussion concerned topicalities of the Constitutional Court, including the clarity of work of the court for the public.
Therefore, the Constitutional Court will dedicate this year until its 20th anniversary to be celebrated on 9 December to different information events. Organisation of two international conferences has also been planned.
The Constitutional Court was established in 1996. It consists of seven judges, and two from among them are nominated by the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court.
