Thursday, April 24, was the last working day for Aldis Lavins, the judge of the Department of Civil Cases, in the Supreme Court.
The Saeima (the Parliament) confirmed Aldis Lavins upon proposal of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court in the office of a judge of the Constitutional Court. On April 25, Aldis Lavins will enter into office of a judge of the Constitutional Court.
In her turn, Aija Branta, who terminates discharge of duties of a judge and of the Chair of the Constitutional Court, tomorrow, on April 25, will come back to the Chamber of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court, where she discharged duties of a judge before her appointment in the office of a judge of the Constitutional Court.
Ten years ago, in 2004, the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court nominated Aija Branta as a candidate to the office of a judge of the Constitutional Court from among judges, and the Saeima confirmed her in this position.
In accordance with the Constitutional Court Law term of office of a judge of the Constitutional Court is ten years.
