The Constitution Protection Office today has adopted a decision to admit the candidate to the position of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Ivars Bickovics to the state secret for the term of five years, the level “secret” including.

To decide on the admittance of I. Bickovics to the state secret, the Constitution Protection Office has studied in detail the materials of the inspection done by the Security Police and has evaluated all the information obtained in relation to the file of Bickovics as a LSSR KGB agent which is at the disposal of the Center of Documentation of Totalitarian Consequences, informs the acting press secretary Iveta Maura of the Constitution Protection Office.

Having analyzed the inspection performed by the Security Police regarding the circulation of classified information in the Supreme Court, the Constitution Protection Office has concluded that since the beginning of the work with classified information in 2002, the Supreme Court has not dealt with especially secret information. Therefore I. Bickovics was conferred admittance of the second, and not the highest level.

In accordance with the regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers, especially secret information covers a limited range of information: the National Security Plan, the State Defense Plan, information on secret assistants involved in outer intelligence work and their activities, information on issuance of covering documents, information of code keys, as well as information regarding scientific discoveries significant for the state security and on military cooperation in the field of nuclear arms and nuclear materials. The Constitution Protection Office has come to the conclusion that the Supreme Court does not deal with such information.
