On August 25, during the meeting of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Aigars Strupiss and the Chair of the Council of Sworn Advocates Janis Rozenbergs issues relevant to the judicial system were discussed, such as quality of cassation complaints and judgments, linking of trainings provided to advocates and judges, and other quality issues.
"Issues of the quality of proceedings must be addressed in a complex manner, involving all parties to the proceedings, including advocates as members of the judiciary," the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court emphasized.
During the conversation, the linking of the training of advocates with the training of judges was discussed, adjusting the seminar for judges on the methodology of civil proceedings to training provided for advocates.
What regards the possibilities of improving the quality of cassation complaints, two main directions were emphasized. The first one is the development of methodology and training of advocates by the Senate, the second – ensuring the responsibility of advocates for low-quality cassation complaints.
In turn, as for the quality of judgments, special attention was paid to limits of cassation and to ensuring uniform case law.
