Peteris Dzalbe, the Chair of the Supreme Court Department of Criminal Cases went to Lithuania to participate in observation of elections of the President of the Republic of Lithuania as the representative of the Central Election Commission.

The Central Election Commission responded to invitation of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Lithuania to representatives of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Latvia to participate in observation of the elections of the President of the Republic of Lithuania.

On Sunday, May 11, Lithuanian voters will go to polling stations to choose the President for the following five years. Early voting had begun already on Wednesday.

Seven candidates pretend to the President’s office. In public opinion surveys the invariable leader is present President Dalia Grybauskaite.

Peteris Dzalbe has been a member of the Central Election Commission from among judges since 2009. In accordance with the law “On Central Election Commission” the Central Election Commission consists of nine members. The Chair of the Commission and seven members of the Central Election Commission have been elected by the Saeima (Parliament), and one member from among judges – by the Supreme Court in its Plenary Session.
