14 June, 2007
On June 14, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Andris Gulans accepted the oath of eleven new notaries.
For the first time the oath was given simultaneously by such a big number of notaries. It means that the prestige of the position of a notary increases, and the new lawyers advance to it with determination. The Chief Justice notes that appearance of young people among the notaries means a certain challenge, brings new trends and creates a healthy professional competition, thus promoting the increase of legal quality not only among the notaries, but in the judicial system in general. A. Gulans wished the new notaries to remember that with giving the oath they become part of the judicial power, and by their activities they have to care about the prestige of the judicial power.
Seven of the new notaries are appointed in the position in the territory of the Riga Regional Court, two – in the territory of the Zemgales Regional Court, one – in the territory of the Kurzemes Regional Court, and one- in the territory of the Latgales Regional Court.
In Riga, the duties of the notary will be fulfilled by Kitija Gara who was a judge of the Riga City Land Register Department, the former assistants to the notaries Inguna Bakanauska, Inga Dobbermane, Inga Kalniskane, as well as Arnis Kregers. Liga Eglite will start to perform the duties of a notary within a month after dismissal from the position of a judge.
Marta Zeile will start to fulfill the duties of a notary within a month after leaving the position of the attorney. The former assistant to the notary Ilga Taurina will work as a notary in Jelgava, and the notaries Vita Krekle in Dobele and Aina Zvidrina in Liepaja before giving the oath also worked as the assistants to the notaries.
