Senators Anita Polakova and Aivars Uminskis of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court participated in the international conference "The Critical Role of the Judiciary in Combating Trafficking in Human Beings" organized by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Tashkent on November 13-14.
During the conference, participants shared their experience in dealing with criminal cases of trafficking in human beings, the importance of international cooperation in the combat against trafficking in human beings, and the necessary measures to identify and protect victims.
Senator Anita Polakova gave a presentation on the experience of Latvian courts in international cooperation in the field of criminal law.
The conference was attended by judges of the supreme courts and courts of appeal of more than 20 countries of the member countries of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
On November 14, at the invitation of the Latvian Embassy in Uzbekistan, the senators also took part in a ceremony dedicated to the 101st anniversary of the Proclamation of the Independent Republic of Latvia, hosted by the Embassy in Tashkent.
