EXPERTS IN ISSUES RELATED TO HUMAN TRAFFICKING FROM THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA VISIT THE SUPREME COURT

On 17 October, two experts in issues related to human trafficking from the United States of America – Virginia Mary Kendall, the judge for a district court and Daniel H.Weiss, a federal prosecutor, visited the Supreme Court. During meeting with Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and judges of the Department of Criminal Cases and the Chamber of Criminal Cases, issues related to the most significant problems regarding investigation and trials of such cases were discussed. During discussion, experts appreciated campaigns of informing of society organised in Latvia, which draw attention to problems of human trafficking and its victims, thus promoting awareness and understanding of society on these issues.
Experts came to Latvia to share legal knowledge and practical experience with police investigators, prosecutors, judges and representatives of non-governmental organisations by telling how to improve investigation, prosecution and trial in cases related to human trafficking.
