The Judicial Council awarded the title of Judge Emeritus to Mārīte Zāģere, a former senator of the Department of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court, who has dedicated 38 years of her life to work of a judge and ceased to perform judicial duties in September this year.
She is one of the most experienced senators of the Department of Civil Cases, the maintainer of the values of the Senate, she was a senator in the first composition of the Department of Civil Cases and the last to work in the Senate from this first composition. Mārīte Zāģere has made a significant contribution to the development of Senate’s case law and to solving complex and fundamental issues of application and interpretation of legal provisions. She is an authority figure whose opinion is observed and respected. She is also a former chair of the Disciplinary Court and a lecturer at the Latvian Judicial Training Centre.
The Judicial Council may award the title of Judge Emeritus to a judge who has acted in good faith and has ceased judicial activity. Mārīte Zāģere is the seventeenth judge to be awarded this title.
