The former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Andris Gulans will hold the position of the senator in the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate.

The Head of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate Veronika Krumina finds that the experience, knowledge and the professional qualification of A. Gulans meets the requirements of the work in the Senate, and it will be useful and of value in the Department of Administrative Cases.

Upon the application of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Ivars Bickovics this decision was approved by the Judicial Qualification Panel on June 27. On June 30 a unanimous decision on the appointment of Gulans in the position of the senator of the Department of Administrative Cases was passed by the general meeting of the senators of the Department of Administrative Cases.

Prior to the election in the position of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, A. Gulans held the position of a judge in the Chamber of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court, however, for fourteen years he was not just a judge but rather the head of the establishment, he has learned the work of state administration which is more suitable in the field of the administrative law. The former Chief Justice sees the new position as a new, interesting challenge and is satisfied for the chance to join the work of creative and knowing professionals.

A. Gulans will start to fulfill his duties of the senator in the Department of Administrative Cases on July 21, when a vacancy opens in the Department with the appointment of the senator Aldis Lavins in the position of the senator of the Department of Civil Cases. The respective decision was adopted in the general meeting of the senators of the Department of Civil Cases on June 5.
