As part of its program of guest lectures of foreign academics, the Latvian Law Institute invites interested persons to attend a guest lecture on European Union state aid and foreign subsidy control law by Conor Quigley KC, visiting professor at the London School of Economics and King's Counsel.
The lecture will take place on September 12 at 10:00 a.m. in the Courtroom of the Supreme Court.
The lecture will be held in English and will last 2.5 hours.
Admission is free.

About the guest lecture
During the lecture on European Union state aid and foreign subsidy control law (State Aid and Foreign Subsidy Control Under European Union Law – Recent Developments and Limitations) Connor Quigley will provide an analysis of the fundamental principles and procedural structure of EU state aid law, as well as the application of group finance exemptions, with a particular focus on state aid aspects in the context of taxation and international arbitration. The most relevant case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union relating to the Baltic States will also be addressed.
About Conor Quigley
Conor Quigley is a widely recognized barrister and leading lawyer at the prestigious Serle Court law firm in London. His specialization covers European Union law, with particular expertise in the areas of competition law and state aid law.
During his career, he has appeared before numerous high-level courts and represented a wide range of clients, including the governments of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, the European Commission, public and private companies, private individuals, and various UK public authorities.
In addition to participation in litigation, Conor Quigley is actively involved in investigations and complaint handling procedures before both the European Commission's Directorate-General for Competition and the UK Office of Fair Trading.
In 2022, Conor Quigley was appointed Visiting Professor in Practice at the London School of Economics. He is also a visiting researcher at the University of Oxford's Institute of European and Comparative Law and, since 2012, a researcher at the Centre for European Law at King's College London.
Connor Quigley is known as the author of the highly acclaimed monograph European State Aid Law and Policy, which provides an in-depth and comprehensive analysis of the EU's state aid legal framework, its application, and political context.
