On January 7, the judge of the Administrative Regional Court, Valters Pokis, begins to perform the duties of the judge at the Department of Administrative Cases of the Supreme Court. By decision of 10 December, the Council for the Judiciary instructed Valters Pokis to replace the Supreme Court judge during temporary absence.
Valters Pokis replaces temporary absent senator Jautrite Briede, who temporarily serves as an expert at the Supreme Court of Ukraine within the framework of the EU project.
Valters Pokis had applied for the possibility announced by the Supreme Court of temporarily replacing a judge at the Department of Administrative Cases. A positive opinion was given by the general meeting of judges of the Department of Administrative Cases.
In accordance with Section 79 of the law “On Judicial Power”, during a vacancy of a judge of the Supreme Court, the Council for the Judiciary, upon recommendation of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and receipt of positive statement of the Judicial Qualification Committee, may instruct the judge of a regional court to substitute this judge for the term not exceeding two years.
