On 2 December delegation from Moldova – judges of first instance courts of Chisinau and lecturers of the State University of Moldova and the European University of Moldova paid a visit to the Supreme Court to exchange experience.

In order to get acquainted with work of the highest court instance of Latvia and of the Council for the Judiciary of Latvia, the delegation met Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the Chairman of the Council for the Judiciary, and Gunars Aigars, former long-term Chairman of the Chamber of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court.

Guests also visited the museum of the Supreme Court and walked on tour over historical Palace of Justice.

Moldavian delegation arrived to Latvia on five-day visit. The goal of the visit – to get acquainted with procedure of adjudication of civil cases and criminal cases in district (city) courts, regional courts and the Supreme Court, which is stipulated in procedural laws, and to hear experience of Latvian legal scientists. 

During their visit, the delegation also visited the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia, where they met the Kristine Strada-Rozenberga, the Dean of the Faculty, Anita Rodina, the pro-Dean, and Martins Osis, the assistant to the Dean. Guests also had an opportunity to get acquainted with central building of the University of Latvia on a short guided tour.

On Thursday Moldavian delegation will visit Riga regional court, where they will get acquainted with work of the Judicial Panel of Criminal Cases, and they will also connect with the Judicial Panel of Civil Cases in video conference, thus assessing opportunities provided by new technologies.  

Guests will get acquainted with work of the first instance court in Riga city Vidzeme suburb court.
