On September 24, 17 judges from Lithuania and Estonia visited the Supreme Court. The guests met with Aigars Strupišs, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the Chair of the Judicial Council, who spoke about the composition and functions of the Judicial Council, the work of the Supreme Court and the time limits of court proceedings.

The guests were interested in the budget issues of the Court, the proportion of cases to be examined in the cassation instance in relation to the refusal to initiate cassation proceedings. The judges were also interested in the Latvian procedure in for approving judges in the office.

Foreign colleagues walked around the Palace of Justice, looked at the Senate’s historic courtroom and the sculpture "Justice". The guests also visited the Supreme Court Museum and got acquainted with its collection, learning about the history and development of the justice system.

Estonian and Lithuanian judges had arrived in Latvia to participate in the Baltic States Judges' Conference "Work of courts during the Covid-19 pandemic". The conference was organized by the Court Administration in cooperation with the Association of Judges and the support of the project “Justice for Development”.
