Chapter of Orders for merits for Latvia has awarded judges of the Supreme Court Pavels Gruzins and Aiva Zarina with Order of Three Stars.
The deputy of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Chair of the Department of Criminal Cases of the Senate Pavels Gruzins has been awarded with the Order of Three Stars of III class. Pavels Gruzins has worked as a judge for 32 years, since 1986 – as a judge of the Supreme Court. For 20 years P. Gruzins has also been a deputy of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and since the moment of creation of the Senate in 1995 he has been the Chair of the Department of Criminal Cases. Beside his direct duties, the senator is also a member of Disciplinary Committee of judges.
The judge of the Chamber of Civil Cases Aiva Zarina has been awarded with the Order of Three Stars of IV class. During 45 years Aiva Zarina with excellence, honestly and creatively executes duties of the judge. Experienced judge, at that moment the Chair of the court of Central district, made brave decisions in time of Latvian Atmoda, when she did not sanction activities of militia while arresting national demonstrators and, releasing picketers, she showed state convictions and actions. A. Zarina has worked in the Supreme Court since 1995.
The Supreme Court is satisfied with state appreciation of work of judges. In restored Republic of Latvia the supreme state award until present has been given to five judges of the Supreme Court. The Order of Three Stars was given to senators Andris Gulans, Roberts Guntis Namatevs and Kalvis Torgans, the Cross of Recognition – to the senator Rolands Krauze and judge Gunars Aigars.
