On Tuesday, December 6, the Supreme Court was visited by the judges of the Vilnius Regional Administrative Court, which is the court of first instance. The experience exchange visit was organized by the Administrative District Court.
At the Supreme Court, the delegation met with Lauma Paegļkalna, the judge of the Department of Administrative Cases, who informed Lithuanian colleagues about the Supreme Court, its structure and work. Judges were particularly interested in the competence of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Supreme Court both as a cassation instance and as a court of first instance. Judge Lauma Paegļkalna explained the peculiarities of court proceedings and work organization in the Department of Administrative Cases, as well as provided an insight into the Department's experience in the application of international law and European Union law and in the cooperation with the Court of Justice of the European Union.
The Lithuanian delegation was also interested in ways of ensuring the application of uniform case law in the Latvian judicial system, communication with society and the measures used to ensure such communication.
The guests walked the corridors of the historical Palace of Justice, learning the history of the Supreme Court in its museum.
As part of the experience exchange visit, it is also planned to visit the Administrative District Court, the Administrative Regional Court, the Office of the Ombudsman, the Court Administration, the Constitutional Court and the State Revenue Service.
