To ensure operation of the Chamber of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court until its liquidation on 31 December 2016, the Council for the Judiciary supported the request of the Supreme Court to instruct Marianna Terjuhana, the judge of Zemgale regional court, to discharge duties of a judge of the Chamber of Civil Cases for the term of a vacancy of a judge.  

The judge starts to discharge duties of a judge of the Chamber of Civil Cases on 31 August.

Marianna Terjuhana has worked as a judge since 1999. She had been the judge of a district court, since 2003 – the judge of a regional court in Riga regional court, and since 2010 – in Zemgale regional court.  

The vacancy of a judge occurred in the Chamber of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court since 16 June, when judicial term of office of Raimonds Gravelsins expired due to reaching of maximum age to discharge judicial duties, which is stipulated by the law.   

In accordance with Section 79 of the law “On Judicial Power”, during the vacancy of a judge of the Chamber of the Court, the Council for the Judiciary may assign, pursuant to the recommendation of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and upon the receipt of a favourable opinion from the Judicial Qualification Committee, for a period not exceeding two years a Judge Emeritus of the Supreme Court or a judge of a regional court to substitute this judge.
