On December 19, 2007, the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court discussed the report of the work group formed on September 17, on breach of ethical standards in actions of the Supreme Court judges expressed after the published phone calls of judges and attorneys.

Plenary Session reviewed also the opinion of the General Prosecutor’s office on the results of the inspection.

Having listened to the opinions expressed in the Plenary Session and taking into account the resolution of the conference of judges of the Republic of Latvia on November 2, 2007, the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court disapproved conduct of the Supreme Court judges where violations of judicial ethics are traced.

The joint session of the Supreme Court judges appeals to all the judges to strengthen by their actions independence and impartiality of courts, public trust in courts. It is decided to publish partly the report prepared by the work group which was formed by the Supreme Court. It is decided, as well, to publish the opinion of the Senator Zigmants Gencs attached to the report.
