On December 4, the Court of Justice of the European Union celebrates its 70th anniversary. Festive events in Luxembourg take place on December 4-6, and Aigars Strupišs, President of the Supreme Court, also participates in them.

As part of the festive events, the forum of judges of the member states " Bringing Justice Closer to the Citizen" shall take place.

In the forum's plenary sessions, the judges of the Court of Justice of the European Union and member states will discuss the latest trends regarding preliminary ruling procedure, the concept of judicial independence in EU law, as well as the latest developments related to conflicts in Europe and restrictive measures against Belarus and Russia.

Whereas, the topics of the three working sessions concern the readability of court rulings, the distinguishable nature of cases - the names of cases, without revealing the identity of their participants, as well as the communication of judicial authorities.

The participation of His Royal Highness the Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg is planned for the ceremonial meeting, which will take place on December 6. Addresses will be given by Koen Lenaerts, President of the Court of Justice of the European Union, by the leaders of the European Parliament and the European Commission, and other participants.

The premiere of the film dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Court of Justice of the European Union will also take place as part of the festivities.

The Court of Justice of the European Union, as a judicial authority of the European Union, ensures compliance with EU law in its interpretation and application. In carrying out this task, the Court of Justice of the European Union supervises the lawfulness of the acts issued by the institutions of the European Union, ensures that the member states fulfil their obligations arising from the treaties, and also interprets EU law at the request of the national courts.
