On the eve of the National Day, the professors of the Faculty of Law of Riga Stradins University visited the Supreme Court. Greeting the guests on the National Day, Ivars Bickovics, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, noted that their visit took place on a significant day when the President announced amendments to the law "On Judicial Power", which returned the name of the Senate to the court of cassation.
The guests were welcomed to watch the film "Senators", as well as participate in a guided tour of the historic Palace of Justice and to visit the Supreme Court Museum, giving rise to reflection on lawyers' selflessness in state-building and the role of law in public life.
The aim of the visit was not only to learn the history but also to get information that is useful in teaching work. Anita Zikmane, the Head of the Division of Case-law and Research of the Supreme Court, emphasized the importance of the conclusions of the Supreme Court judgments as an educational resource for lawyers. The Supreme Court is open to co-operation and support for students in their study process, however the research work is in the students’ own hands, and the professor’s advice on effective use of this support is significant.
