Judges of the Administrative Regional Court, Lauma Paegļkalna and Valters Poķis, are terminating judicial duties in the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate. By the decision of the Judicial Council, they were assigned to replace the Supreme Court judges until December 30, 2022.
Under the decision of the Saeima (parliament), the number of judges of the Supreme Court was increased by two judges for two years – in 2021 and 2022. Accordingly, the number of judges of the Administrative Regional Court was decreased for a term of two years.
The capacity of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Senate was increased in order to reduce the backlog of cases.
From January 1, 2023, there will be 36 senators in the Supreme Court.
