On Wednesday, November 30, representatives of the Helsinki Court of Appeal visited the Supreme Court. The experience exchange visit was organized by the Riga Regional Court.

At the Supreme Court, the Finnish colleagues met with Irīna Jansone, Judge of the Department of Criminal Cases, and Anita Zikmane, Head of the Division of Case-Law and Research.

The delegation was introduced to general information about the Supreme Court and its work, communication and dissemination of information about court rulings. The delegation was especially interested in the active participation of the Supreme Court’s President in the examination of cases, as well as in the examination of administrative cases and in special appeal procedures.

Judge Irīna Jansone explained the peculiarities of handling cases in the Senate, and also introduced the delegation to the procedure for becoming a senator.

Representatives of the Helsinki Court of Appeal also walked the corridors of the historical Palace of Justice, visited the museum, and learned about the history of the Supreme Court.

As part of the visit, the Prosecutor's Office, the Economic Court and the Riga Regional Court were also visited.
