1 December, the Saeima (Parliament) appointed Zane Petersone as judge of the Supreme Court and removed her from office in Riga Regional Court.

The eligibility of Zane Petersone for position of judge of the Supreme Court was determined by the judicial selection committee. Judicial Qualifications Committee delivered a positive opinion.

Zane Petersone has been a judge for 14 years. In 2002 she started working in the City of Riga Kurzeme District Court. 2009 to 2011, she worked in Riga Regional Court. Since 2011 she executed duties of judge of the Supreme Court – four years in the Chamber of Civil Cases, but from 1 May 2015 – in the Department of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court.

The judge received Doctor’s degree in Civil Law. Zane Petersone is representative of Latvia in the the Joint Supervisory Body of Eurojust and the European Association of Judges for Mediation.
