27 June, 2022
On June 20-22, the 14th Congress of the International Association of Supreme Administrative Jurisdictions (IASAJ) was held. This year’s theme was “The role of the high administrative courts during the Covid-19 crisis”. The Supreme Court of the Republic of Latvia was represented at this Congress by Jautrīte Briede, Senator of the Department of Administrative Cases of the Supreme Court Senate.
This was the first time that a representative of the Supreme Court of Latvia participated as an observer in the IASAJ Congress. As the Supreme Court applied for joining the association last year, the Supreme Court's application was also on the agenda of this Congress. After reviewing the application, the Board of the Association approved the Supreme Court of the Republic of Latvia as a member of the Association, which was announced at the General Assembly convened on June 22 within the framework of the Congress.
The International Association of Supreme Administrative Courts was founded in 1983 in Paris and is based in the French Council of State. It brings together the supreme administrative courts of 63 countries. The aim of the Association is to promote international cooperation between the highest administrative jurisdictions by ensuring the exchange of experience and ideas.
The Congress of the Association is held every three years or as established by the General Assembly in individual cases.
