Today, January 25, Ivars Bickovics, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, takes part in the opening of the European Court of Human Rights’ judicial year in Strasbourg. An international seminar on how to enhance confidence in the judiciary is also taking place in the framework of this event.

The international seminar will be opened by Guido Raimondi, the President of the European Court of Human Rights.

Participants of the seminar will discuss the importance of the appointment, promotion and dismissal of judges in the context of raising confidence in the courts, as well as how such confidence can be strengthened and protected by the attitude of other authorities. The seminar will also focus on the issue of judges' separate opinions regarding court rulings.

The opening ceremony of the ECHR’s judicial year is an annual tradition, with judges, senior officials, and international law experts invited.
