On November 4 and 5, Senator of the Department of Civil Cases of the Senate Zane Pētersone participated in the Twelfth Symposium of European Trademark and Design for Judges organized by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), this time on the Zoom platform.

The biennial symposium is the most significant training and experience exchange event for intellectual property judges organized by the EUIPO; it is traditionally attended by several judges of the Court of Justice of the European Union, a representative of the European Commission and members of the EUIPO Boards of Appeal.

Zane Pētersone chaired the Symposium’s session of November 5. During the session, Jérôme Briard from France spoke about the complex international investigation and proceedings in the Hermès Finnish case. Irene Roche Laguna spoke on the European Commission's new initiative, namely the draft Regulation on the Digital Single Market or Digital Services Act, which is currently one of the most debated draft law in the field of intellectual property.
