The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court assigned Intars Bisters, the judge of the Chamber of Civil Cases, to execute duties of a judge of cassation instance – the Department of Civil Cases of the Supreme Court as from 9 February until 3 July.
Normunds Salenieks, the judge of the Department of Civil Cases, is on unpaid vacation until 3 July, so there is judge’s office vacant for long term in the department. Observing large number of cases pending in the Department of Civil Cases, it was necessary to solve issue on filling of this vacancy for the term.
Clause 66 of the Transitional Provisions of the law “On Judicial Power” envisages that the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court may assign a judge of the Chamber of the Supreme Court to substitute a judge during a vacancy or temporary absence of a judge of a department of the Supreme Court.
