On March 11, Maris Klisans, the Ambassador of Latvia to the Netherlands, in festive ceremony gave books of legal literature, which are published in Latvia, inter alia,  editions of the Supreme Court – all issues of the “Supreme Court Bulletin” and brochure about the Supreme Court, to the Peace Palace Library in the Hague.

In honour of the centenary of the Peace Palace, which was celebrated last year, the Carnegie Foundation urged all eighty-nine embassies residing in The Hague to participate in grand project “Embassies donate books to the Peace Palace Library”. The Embassy of Latvia in The Hague contacted Latvian leading publishers of legal literature, and Courthouse Agency, “Latvijas Vestnesis”, the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia and the Supreme Court of Latvia allotted forty-one book – about Latvian civil procedure, labour law, forensics, intellectual law, the European Union law, glossary of terms of the Civil Law of the Republic of Latvia, and several books written by the professor Kalvis Torgans, the leading specialist in civil law and the judge of the Supreme Court.

The embassy of Latvia is the thirtieth, which donated books to the library within this project. Candice Alihusain, the Library project coordinator and Niels van Tol, the chief librarian, on his behalf and of Steven van Hoogstraten, the director of the Carnegie Foundation, expressed his gratitude for gift and support to the project.

The Peace Palace Library is visited by judges of international organizations, courts and tribunals, prosecutors, employees, legal professionals and students, and participants of summer courses of The Hague Academy of Law, who come from all continents, also from Latvia. There had already been 281 books in the Library, reflecting legal processes in Latvia, inter alia, 18 books in Latvian language, rest – in English, French, German and Russian languages.

The Peace Palace, its Library and territory are possessed by the Carnegie Foundation. The Library contains more than one million of books, and at the end of the month the Library delivers review on monthly novelties to more than 3000 of its readers. In March, the review will include the article about books donated by Latvian publishers.
