On June 12, the Saeima (the Parliament) unanimously, with 83 votes for, confirmed the judge of the Riga Regional Court Civil Cases Court Panel Marika Senkane in the position of the Supreme Court judge.
The structural unit in which the judge will hold the office will be determined by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court by his instruction.
Marika Senkane got her higher education diploma of the University of Latvia with the specialty of a lawyer in 1991. She started to work in 1984, and for eleven years she worked as a secretary of the court sessions and the senior consultant in the Panel of Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court. After one year’s work in the Ministry of Welfare she returned to the judiciary as a judge: in 1996 – 2003 she held the position of a judge in the Riga City Kurzeme District Court, and since 2003 – in the Panel of Civil Cases of the Riga Regional Court.
In March 2008 Marika Senkane was conferred the second qualification grade.
In the Latvian Judicial conference on April 11 she was elected in the Judicial Ethical Commission.
